The City of Cape Town advises residents in the Kraaifontein area that the construction of a dual carriageway in Darwin Road commences this month. This work forms part of a broader road improvement project to upgrade Darwin Road. Construction will take place in a phased approach to minimise disruption to traffic and residents in the area.

The construction work will take place weekdays between 07:30 and 17:30 and some Saturdays, if needed. The duration of the project is eight months, weather permitting and any unforeseen delays.

‘We want to thank the residents and road users in Kraaifontein for their patience with the roadworks. The construction of this dual carriageway forms part of the broader improvement of roads in the area and our efforts to improve traffic flow and the safety of road users. We appreciate the cooperation of the surrounding community while we complete this much needed work,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

Additional improvements such as the construction of a median; improving the non-motorised transport (NMT) facilities; the installation of new streetlights and the construction of traffic circles at intersections along Darwin Road also form part of the improvement project.

The City will try to ensure that the work is done with minimal impact on traffic.
