The City of Cape Town is currently providing accredited training in meeting procedures and minute-taking to 47 participants of the Women For Change (WFC) programme within wards 6, 7 and 111. The training started on Tuesday, 6 April and will run until Monday, 12 April 2021.
Women from Belmont Park, Scottsville, Wallacedene, Scottsdene, Eikendal and Northpine are currently attending the accredited training to empower them with the knowledge of procedures for meetings and the skills to take minutes to make them more marketable for future job opportunities.
Speaking at the commencement of the training, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management Alderman Grant Twigg, praised the women for their commitment towards their communities and for raising their hands to be part of the Women For Change Programme.
This is an EPWP initiative earmarked for women living in City rental stock with empowerment programmes.
‘The City is looking at various ways to further empower our participants in EPWP programmes like Women For Change. Lifelong learning is important. After this training, they will be able to include these added skills on their CV and apply for other positions within the city.
‘As a caring city, throughout the year, we offer various programmes and interventions to assist our communities at risk. The Women for Change Programme is an intervention programme aimed at vulnerable women in general and women in rental stock in particular. The programme seeks to enable women to play a more active role in their local communities, while developing and learning skills that will help unlock future job opportunities,’ said Alderman Twigg
Women who are living in City rental stock are encouraged to register with the EPWP database by visiting their local subcouncil should they be interested in the Women for Change Programme.
