Strand Beach Road streetlights shine bright again

09 Apr 2021 in Where We Govern

The lights are shining bright along Strand Beach Road following the important and necessary repair and maintenance of streetlight infrastructure in the Helderberg area. We thank residents for their support and understanding, while the required work was carried out and backlogs, created by the national Covid-19 lockdowns, were attended to. Forty four streetlight outages along the popular Strand Beach Road has been attended to. These included repairs to faulty connections, circuit breakers and general infrastructure faults.

‘We thank City electricity teams for their commitment and for working long hours to carry out the required repairs and maintenance in the Helderberg region, as well as along the well-known 4km Strand Beach Road.

‘This popular stretch of road is used by local and visiting residents, beachgoers and fishermen from across the metro. Our officials attended to faulty streetlight connections, circuit breaker faults as well as seeing to the general repairs of streetlights along this stretch and in the greater Helderberg region.

‘Our electricity depots have experienced Covid-19 related service request backlogs, which were further compounded by recent inclement weather, but City teams have managed to work through it. Work and maintenance on electricity infrastructure continues across the metro and we are trying our very best to attend to them as quickly as we can,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy and Climate Change, Councillor Phindile Maxiti.

Since 27 March 2020, the City’s Electricity and Distribution Department attended to more than 246 546 technical service requests across the metro. This was done while taking the necessary safety precautions including social distancing, wearing of masks and regular hand sanitising.

The Department continues to work hard to bring down turnaround times given the extent of the impact Covid-19 has had on City operations.
