On Thursday, 13 May 2021, the City of Cape Town handed over title deeds to seven beneficiaries in Dunoon. In total, 39 beneficiaries in the area will receive their title deeds. The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and other dignitaries celebrated with residents as they received their title deeds and became first-time home owners.

Homeowners in Dunoon were delighted when they received their title deeds to their homes and became first time home owners. During the handover ceremony, seven beneficiaries received their title deeds. In the coming weeks, the remaining 32 title deeds will be delivered to beneficiaries.

‘These title deeds are more than just a piece of paper, they will open many doors for the beneficiaries, their children and grandchildren. This important document not only proves ownership, but will empower many residents who were previously denied access to property ownership because of the colour of their skin.

‘We encourage the new homeowners to continue to look after their homes as they have been doing, keep up with the necessary maintenance and make responsible decisions about insurance and wills, as these assets may be passed down for many generations to come. The City will continue to make every effort to ensure that more property owners will receive their title deeds as the City remains committed to building an inclusive city, unlocking opportunities and redress,’ said Councillor Booi.
