On Wednesday, 5 May 2021, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and other dignitaries visited the City’s new R33 million Eindhoven housing project where work is under way. This project is expected to be completed toward the end of this year, if all goes according to plan.
The City’s new R33 million Eindhoven housing project in Delft is made up of 201 Breaking New Ground (BNG) State-subsidised houses.
‘I am pleased to see the progress that has made since our last visit to this project. This project is an example of the City’s commitment to providing housing opportunities to the most vulnerable and enabling redress. This project will provide homes to more than 800 people.
‘As with all of our projects, we work according to the Housing Allocation Policy and the Housing Needs Register to be sure of a fair and organised approach to the allocation of opportunities, given the immense need. The beneficiary target areas are determined in consultation with the community’s representatives, and submitted to a Housing Allocation Committee for approval.
‘It is important that we complete our projects in the shortest possible timeframe as our housing projects across the metro remain under threat of unlawful occupation. Unlawful land occupation is illegal. It is stealing land and stealing opportunities from those who are lawfully on the Register and from those who are in the process of receiving their affordable housing opportunity.
‘We thank the City’s project teams for their continued hard work in helping the City provide homes to our residents across the metro. We also thank the community for working with the City to ensure the Eindhoven project becomes a successful reality. It will also be incredibly important that the community at large helps us to prevent the unlawful occupation of this project, and others across the metro,’ said Councillor Booi.
Beneficiaries for this project will be selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
