Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in partnership with Raw Native Kreatives is inviting unemployed youth (18-35 years) with a passion for the arts, to take part in an upcoming visual arts training programme.

Raw Native Kreatives, is an NPO established by six young creative from NMB, who share a passion for community development. Through the arts they continue to make a change and shift some of the stigmas that come from being brought up from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The six-weeks long initiative, ‘Kreative Youth Programme’, aims to strengthen the professional development of the visual arts sector in Nelson Mandela Bay, offering visual artists an opportunity to develop their entrepreneurship skills.

The programme will focus on drawing, customising, silk-screen printing and entrepreneurship.

NMBM Mayoral Committee Member for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Cllr Helga van Staaden said: “The programme is about equipping youth with new skills relating to creative and digital arts, and entrepreneurship, which will help them build careers in a post pandemic society. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, our youth have had few opportunities to develop their artistic entrepreneurial skills.”

Unemployed artists or those who will be able to participate during the six weeks programme are encouraged to enter. They will be supplied with materials and transport fees for the duration of the project and will be required to attend all lectures and workshops.

For selection purposes, artists are required to bring examples of their work (portfolio) for the selection interview as follows:

Time: 09h00 to 14h00
Date: Monday, 07 June 2021
Venue: Mendi Arts Centre, Cnr Limba and Mendi Rd, New Brighton.
