The City of Cape Town’s Subcouncil 16, hosted an ‘Open Day’ in Woodstock on Thursday, 2 September 2021. The event was officiated by Ward 115 Councillor, Ian McMahon.
The aim of the ‘Open Day’ was to deliver City services directly to the community and to provide easy access to the many service departments within the City. City departments were on hand to assist residents with enquiries and concerns that affect them.
The Open Day was conducted over two separate sessions on the same day to increase the opportunity for residents to make use of City services.
The services offered included:
- The Councillor’s street office – setting up a space to meet and hear residents’ concerns, rates queries and the logging of service requests;
- Updating details and applying on the City’s EPWP Jobseeker Database;
- Registering on the City’s Jobs Connect platform to access learning and work opportunities;
- Engaging with the City’s Business Hub on support for small business/entrepreneurs;
- Engaging with the Solid Waste Department: PACE (Public Awareness, Communication and Education) which is built around awareness of how poor management affects the city and the community;
- Engaging with City Health representatives to discuss health related matters and vaccination enquiries;
- Engaging with the Public Participation Unit on how the City communicates with its stakeholders.
‘I am thrilled that we were able to sign up 278 community members onto the various portals and the opportunity for residents to engage, meet and chat with the City. This is an outstanding number!
‘We have updated the details and registered 170 people on the Jobseekers Database, 94 people on the Jobs Connect App, 14 people engaged with the Business Hub and we attended to 14 councillor street office meeting queries.
‘This event was a huge success and it was highly appreciated by the community who really came out to be active citizens. Residents left the event with printed literature on illegal dumping and an array of information on health and other topical matters,’ said Councillor McMahon.
