The City of Cape Town successfully completed the installation of a T-piece on the 2400mm diameter bulk water pipeline from Faure Water Treatment Plant this weekend. This is an important step towards strengthening water supply to the Khayelitsha area and supporting future development and economic growth in this part of the City. See the video about what the work entailed: https://youtu.be/sqtb7rCFs7A
The City of Cape Town is making steady progress on our R162 million Baden Powell Drive bulk water pipeline project, which will strengthen supply to thousands of Khayelitsha residents.
The Faure Water Treatment Plant, which is the biggest treatment plant supplying the city, was shut down this past weekend to allow for a T-section to be installed on the 2400mm Faure Bulk Water pipeline. This T-section will allow for the eventual connection of the new piping along Baden Powell Drive to the City’s existing reticulation system.
Khayelitsha residents should start feeling the benefits when the new infrastructure is eventually commissioned around March 2022.
This work is in line with the City’s commitments in our Water Strategy to provide sufficient and reliable water.
The City of Cape Town wants to thank residents who responded to the request to reduce non-essential water usage this past weekend while one of our treatment plants were offline. No major water supply disruptions were reported as a result of this work.
