The Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg, visited the Hillstar Complex Mechanical Workshop to assess the progress of our refuse trucks that are currently in for repairs.

As the City, we are serious about improving our refuse collection, and key to this is bringing our refuse collection trucks back on the road as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, 22 February, Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management conducted an oversight visit to one of the City’s fleet management workshops at Hillstar Complex to assess the progress of the repairs of our refuse collection trucks.

Although most vehicle repairs are done by contractors in external workshops, the City’s in-house teams provide valuable support. Alderman Twigg, accompanied by Urban Waste Management Portfolio Committee chairperson, Councillor Brenda Hansen, and local councillors, were welcomed by senior officials from the department and technical teams who took them around the workshop to see first-hand how repairs are done.

‘To keep Cape Town clean, we must  ensure that all of our refuse trucks are back on the road as soon as possible. Our visit to Hillstar Complex was to ensure that our teams understand the urgency of this situation, and ensure that we remain committed to doing more to improve service delivery.

‘The team is hard at work to get the trucks repaired, so they can get back on the road and refuse can be collected on time,’ said Alderman Twigg.
