Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Services Cllr Charlotte Zitha handed over 150 unique school shoes made out of recycles plastic masks and drips to learners from KwaThema and Tsakane yesterday.
The shoes are a product of a local pharmaceutical company.
“The shoes are made out of plastic used for drips and face masks, saving the environment for a good cause. Not only has the shoe donation restored the dignity of the learners but it also boosted their confidence. One also hopes that it inspires their creativity to also think out of the box and invent something even greater for the good of fellow humans and the environment,” said MMC Zitha.
The learners who received the donation are from Kenneth Masekela Secondary School in Kwa-Thema (100 pairs) and Thuthukanisizwe Primary School in Tsakane, which received 50 school shoes.
Kenneth Masekela Secondary School principal Jabulani Fakude made it clear that the donation was much needed, as most of the learners were from humble backgrounds. He encouraged other companies and good Samaritans to consider making such donations to local schools for the greater benefit of learners in our townships.
