This past weekend, the City of Tshwane, working with our multiple stakeholders, took
the Tswelopele Clean-up Campaign to Marabastad in Region 3 for a combined effort
to clean, safeguard and protect our natural environment.
The Tswelopele Clean-up Campaign seeks to drive collaboration with communities,
non-governmental organisations and businesses to promote safe, clean and aesthetic
environments for businesses and our residents.
Marabastad was a natural choice to host our first clean-up campaign for the year.
The area is a vibrant economic node in Tshwane and is home to hundreds of informal
traders and small businesses.
Working with a group of about 20 informal traders, including members of the
Marabastad business community, we managed to collect and dispose of nearly 400
refuse bags.
The campaign was also supported by three Members of the Mayoral Committee with
regional and City officials who led by example by picking up litter, sweeping the streets and removing illegal dumping.
Going forward, the City is committed to work with the Marabastad business community to tackle elements of urban decay in the area.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to make this weekend’s Tswelopele
Clean-up Campaign a success. We all have a collective responsibility to keep our city
clean
