The Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Alderman Tania Campbell, on 24 March 2022, hosted the city’s first Academic Recognition Webinar. The webinar is a platform where the Executive Mayor recognizes students that performed exceptionally well in the Matric Class of 2021.
Mayor Campbell was joined by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development, Cllr Bakang Lethoko and some of the top fifteen performing Matric learners in the City of Ekurhuleni. The learners were given the opportunity to share personal stories about their Matric year and how they overcame the challenges associated with schooling during a global pandemic.
“It is important for the city to develop a capable human resource with the relevant skills to compete in the knowledge economy and drive innovation. Education is a constitutional right and the best possible vehicle to empower our residents and develop our city. Our Metro’s ability to promote inclusive growth depends on producing successive generations of well-educated young
people contributing to socio-economic development. A society with a large, well-educated population will overcome more easily the many obstacles to social and economic equality experienced by the majority of households.” Said, Mayor Campbell.
