Welcome Zenzile Road remedial work commences

03 May 2022 in Where We Govern

The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will commence with remedial roadwork along Welcome Zenzile Road that links Ndlulamthi Street in Khayelitsha with Ntlolokshane Street in Kuyasa.

The work is needed after a section of the embankment slopes of the road eroded due to a sewage spill caused by a blockage in the overloaded sewer system. Work is scheduled to be implemented from today, 3 May until the end of June 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

Work is planned to take place between 07:30 and 17:00 on weekdays.

The road will remain open to traffic, however, road users must please note that vehicular movement will be restricted.

‘We are committed to ensuring that the road link is restored. We want to get the work done as soon as possible as this road connects the two communities that were previously separated by a stormwater channel. Once fully restored, the link will encourage a safe and socially connected community in Kuyasa and improve access for motorists and pedestrians between these two areas,’ said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.

‘I also appeal to residents and motorists to please be patient with us and to comply with the signage around the construction site. To help ease the process, we ask that road users consider using alternate routes where possible and also to do so to avoid delays,’ said Councillor Quintas.
