Between general municipal elections, which are held every five years, local governments across the country may need to contest by-elections. This could be because a council is dissolved or a ward councillor resigns, for example.

In the most recent by-elections, our DA candidates secured wins over 90% in two wards and grew in an ANC stronghold. A shining endorsement of competent DA service delivery.

How does this affect you?

Municipal governments are the bread and butter of well-run communities. They ensure your right to access running water, electricity, roads, healthcare, and rubbish removal, among other basic services. The councillor who represents your community stands up for you if something goes wrong and is your voice in council.
