Senior Manager: Parliamentary Operations, Cape Town

The DA wishes to appoint a dynamic, self-motivated and goal driven individual, in Cape Town. The
successful candidate will report to the Chief Operations Officer. 

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the DA caucus in Parliament receives sufficient administrative, procedural, issue driving and research support.
  •  Ensuring that the work of the parliamentary research department, the parliamentary support office, and the chief whip’s office are well supported, and all complement each other in their contributions to achieving the Party’s strategic vision, values and goals

Prospective applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree
  • Post-graduate qualification in Law, Politics, or Economics advantageous
  • 3 to 5 years’ management experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a national or provincial legislature, or government, or legal practice, or operational management role
  • Computer literacy, particularly MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency in more than one language advantageous
  • Formal letter-writing and report-drafting skills, with meticulous attention to grammar, spelling, and
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply national and provincial legislation as well as the rules of Parliament
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge of legislative processes, the role and function of Parliament
    within a constitutional democracy, as well as the principles, policies, and ideology of the DA
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the South African political landscape
  • The ability to apply sound political judgment
  • Excellent administrative and organisational abilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Party
  • Proven record of initiative, problem solving, and the ability to recognize and implement improvements to systems
  • Commitment to the principles, policies, and programme of action of the DA
  • An ability to work effectively and energetically around a demanding work schedule
  • Applicants must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence and have access to an insured vehicle for
    occasional use
