The DA wishes to appoint a dynamic, self-motivated and goal driven individual, who will be based at our Federal Head Office in Cape Town. The successful candidate will report directly to the Policy Unit Manager, with an indirect reporting line to the Head of Policy.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the research, consulting, writing and presenting of DA policy, including documents and position papers that flow from it
  • Giving practical effect to the DA’s vision of an Open Opportunity Society for All as well as the values, principles, and ideals on which it is founded
  • Understanding and applying the Party’s strategy as it relates to the DA’s policy programme
  • Supporting the upskilling of public representatives on Party policy
  • Promoting the policy platform externally
  • Assisting the Policy Unit Manager in maintaining the workflow and management of specialised projects

Prospective applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate or equivalent
  • Honours degree/postgraduate diploma, ideally in social sciences, public policy, law, or economics
  • 3 years’ experience within a research environment
  • Must have previously published articles or possess evidence of strong ability to write up research problems and findings
  • Ability to analyse, synthesise, and present complex information (qualitative and quantitative) in an understandable manner
  • Computer literacy essential, particularly MS Office Suite
  • Strong administrative skills essential
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work with large amounts of information in a systematic fashion under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities
  • Systematic, comprehensive and displaying excellent attention to detail
  • Commitment to the principles, policies and programme of action of the Party
  • Ability to work effectively and energetically around a demanding work schedule, including working irregular hours on a frequent basis
  • Outcomes-orientated, not simply task-orientated
  • Applicants MUST be in possession of a valid driver’s license and have access to an insured vehicle for occasional use
