Liam Chad Jacobs was elected as DASO Federal Leader at DASO’s first Federal Congress in October 2022 with the vision of creating a “DASO For All”.
Liam was born in South Africa’s Diamond City, Kimberley of the Northern Cape. Though born in Kimberley, a great majority of his family comes from the small Karoo Town of Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape.
The 22-year-old is entering his fourth year of active involvement within student politics. He served in numerous leadership roles at the University of Pretoria (UP) within various structures. In 2020, he was elected as the chairperson of House Humanities (a Faculty House that represented 5500 students) and subsequently became one of four first-year Faculty House chairpersons in the university’s history. This led to him becoming a member of the academic sub-council of the University’s SRC in 2021.
Liam also played a key role in re-establishing DASO UP in 2022 and is currently working towards ensuring that there is a DASO on every campus of every institution of higher learning throughout South Africa.
Liam is currently studying towards his Honours Degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Pretoria. He hopes to earn his PhD before he turns 30.
