Dirk Kotze

Executive Mayor

Dirk Kotzé is widely known as a family man and an entrepreneur. He is married to Riette and they have one son together. Kotzé is a self-made entrepreneur, farmer, and businessman. His wife and younger brother work with him in his businesses.

Dirk has lived in the Mossel Bay area for the past two decades, initially in Suiderkruis in Great Brak River and then in Aalwyndal in Mossel Bay. Kotzé was born in Worcester and spent his primary school years in De Aar before finishing high school in Colesberg in the Northern Cape. In 2013, Kotzé obtained the executive leadership certificate from the University of the Western Cape. Kotzé studied further and completed several law modules at Nelson Mandela Metro University. South African Local Government Association (SALGA) followed, after which he successfully embarked on the Municipal Minimum Competency (2018) and Middle Management Course (Stellenbosch University).

Kotzé has consistently upskilled in order to effectively deliver in his municipality. In 2021, he completed his honours qualification in public management. Since 2013, he formed a foundation to which he could begin his public service not only through his tertiary education but through the application of his education and entrepreneurial experience into the political sphere. He entered local politics in 2013 as a Councillor for ward 8 in Mossel Bay. In the previous term he served as executive deputy mayor, and in the last months of this term, he served as acting mayor.

The mayor has a clear five-point plan for the municipality which places a focus on good governance and service delivery, social regeneration, credibility for economic growth to create jobs, safety and environmental protection seeking to invest in our future generation.
