John Moodey was born in Doornfontein, Johannesburg. At the age of six he and his family fell victim to apartheid’s Group Areas Act, where they were forced to move to the ghetto Western Township.
He has been an activist since his school days.
Moodey became a trade union leader, defending the rights and interests of workers in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) where he worked for 20 years.
He has had the privilege to serve the DA in many positions since 1998; namely as branch chairman, ward councillor, CoJ caucus chairman, deputy regional chairman, member of the Legislature, provincial chairman and as the current provincial leader.
The highlight of his political career was having the privilege to lead the Province in the successful 2014 and 2016 elections.
John Moodey is currently living in Florida, with his wife Barenice and their children. He has numerous hobbies, but he most enjoys those shared with his family.
