Nicholas Nyati

Interim DA Youth Federal Leader

Nicholas Nyati was born in the small citrus farming community of Kirkwood in the Sundays River Valley of the Eastern Cape.

The 28-year-old has served the DA since 2015 when he served as an academics officer of the DA Student Organisation-led (DASO) Student Representative Council (SRC) at, the now, Nelson Mandela University.

Nicholas was elected as the fourth SRC president under DASO at the institution where he served in 11 institutional committees including council and senate. Nicholas’ leadership came at a time when student protests were at their peak, making him unpopular for leading the charge of opening universities.

Under his leadership, this was the only university that worked with the DA-led municipality to organise alternative venues during the shutdowns so that thousands of students could attend class, write exams and graduate. This was the start of a concerted effort towards e-Learning at the Institution.

Nicholas was Youth spokesperson for the DA mayoral campaign in Nelson Mandela Bay metro in 2016 and went on to serve as a constituency officer in Ngqura Constituency which serviced 40% of all wards in Nelson Mandela Bay metro.

He has been an executive support officer to the MMC for Human Settlements, a communications advisor to the executive mayor and, now, as a PR councillor and DA spokesperson for Human Settlements.
