A third wave of coronavirus infections is on the horizon. Without an effective vaccination strategy, hospitals will become flooded, lives will be lost, economic activity will be restricted, and we will continue to suffer human rights abuses and violations at the hands of the national government.

We must vaccinate now to achieve herd immunity and return to normal life

To defeat COVID-19, save lives and end the cycle of lockdowns, we need to achieve herd immunity. To do this safely, a substantial proportion of our population needs to be fully vaccinated, making the virus unable to spread in our population.

The South African government aims to fully vaccinate about 40 million people (67% of South Africa’s population) to achieve herd immunity by the end of the year.

To try and achieve herd immunity at our current pace of vaccination is like trying to fill a swimming pool with a teaspoon.

The DA is doing everything we can to get South Africans vaccinated against the coronavirus quickly and efficiently, to save lives and end lockdowns once and for all.
