Voter registration for dummies

OK so this is what you need to know…

To vote in the 2019 national elections, you need to be registered. And your last chance to register is on 26 and 27 January 2019 at your local polling station.

No, you don’t need to re-register if you have registered before, but you do need to make sure your details are up-to-date. They’ll need updating if you’ve moved to a house in a different voting district; or your voting district has been changed.

You can make updates online!

If you have registered before you, you only need to check that your details are up-to-date, and you can do this at check.da.org.za!

Unfortunately, you cannot register for the first time online, you can only update your details.

South African citizens can register from 16 years old.

Even though you can’t vote until you’re 18, you can register to vote if you are a South African citizen. All you need is your green, barcoded ID book; smartcard ID; or valid temporary ID certificate.

Please encourage your friends and family to register.

Everything that’s bad about South Africa is snowballing – corruption, crime, the petrol price, your grocery bill… It’s harder to find a job and we are all worried about our children’s futures.

We don’t have to accept this.

Things can change, but you have to be registered to vote!
