On 22 November 2019 the Executive Mayor, Bongani Baloyi, joined by MMC Mokete Motsamai, marked yet another momentous occasion for his administration, when he awards over R50, 000.00 in financial assistant to informal traders through the Sebenza Imbokodo Women’s Funds.

The recently launched initiative is aimed at assisting women-owned businesses operating in the informal sector from disadvantage backgrounds. Many of the beneficiaries will use the much-needed finance to advance their business aspiration.

The Executive Mayor’s vision through this initiative seek to empower, capacitate and support women led informal businesses.

“Most women are engaged in business as a response to socio-economic challenges. We need to take a stand as a municipality and give them a much-needed support in any way possible. When you empower a woman, you empower a community,” said MMC for Development and Planning, Mokete Motsamai.

One of the Beneficiaries mentioned that she intends to improve her business and use some of her profits to help build her community.

In pursuance of a municipality that cares, the municipality is committed in creating a conducive environment for growth and development for all its inhabitants, businesses, residents, investors and all relevant stakeholders.

More beneficiaries have been identified and the roll out of this programme will continue into the year 2020.
