George Municipality, in conjunction with CREMHOG (Christian Rehabilitation Ministries to the Homeless of George) is taking “Project Hope” for People Living on the Streets to new heights. The St. Mark’s Square Kiosk is being used as a drop- in centre for all service providers to help improve the plight of homeless people. Last week Wednesday, the Department of Social Services did intakes at the kiosk and on Thursday the HIV/Aids Office of George Municipality and the Department of Health addressed the wellness issues. Part of the programme was HIV/Aids testing, Blood pressure testing, condom distribution, the distribution of information pamphlets on the EPWP programmes, and the George Youth Café. When George Municipality initiated the project they had a holistic approach in mind where all service providers could play a part in reducing and alleviating the plight of People Living on the Streets. Child Welfare, SASSA as well as George Municipality`s Youth Office all indicated that they will form part of this programme to ensure that it reaches the heights it was intended to. Services start at 9:30 every Wednesday and Thursday.
