Considering the current drought in the Western Cape, the DA-led Saldanha Bay municipality took to schools to educate primary school kids on the value of water and how important it is to save this precious resource.

In November 2017, the Saldanha Bay municipality created a character named “Druppie” to create awareness and education about the water crisis faced by the Western Cape and various municipalities within the Province – including Saldanha Bay.

The Mayor had Druppie visit 15 different primary schools in the municipality to educate pupils about the importance of water and how to save it. The program ran from the 14th to the 30th of November 2017 and reached a total of 7 500 pupils.
