Residents from the Hopland area in Saron had something to celebrate in August 2019 when they received their title deeds after having lived in their homes for nearly 20 years.

Construction of the houses started in 1998 and nearly two decades after the last of the beneficiaries moved into their homes, the DA-led Drakenstein assisted them to gain full legal ownership of their properties.

On the day of the title deeds ceremony, executive mayor Conrad Poole and Western Cape minister for human settlements Tertius Simmers handed over 269 title deeds to the residents of Hopland. The DA-led municipality has sped up the delivery of title deeds during its tenure to ensure the economic empowerment of residents through home ownership.

Executive mayor Conrad Poole said “these title deeds are a great add-on to our already developing-city. I am incredibly proud to stand here today as this is proof of our commitment toward bettering the lives of our communities.” The Mayor also urged the residents to take pride in their properties, “take care of it, invest in it and create a legacy of excellence with it.”
