On Tuesday, 15 October, the City of Tshwane hosted the public hearings that prompts the process of the Tshwane Automotive Hub as part of the expansion OR
Tambo Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
This is a culmination of a partnership between the City, Gauteng Provincial Government and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to make Tshwane a world class automotive city, making it the first mega development of this nature established on the continent.
The positive participation of all spheres of government is testament to a
commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.
The Tshwane Automotive Hub comes at a time where community members compete on an unequal platform as a direct result of inequality and limited supply to meet the demand for accelerated job creation.
It is therefore imperative that we urgently find solutions to spur economic growth so our communities can be part of South Africa’s skilled and meaningful workforce.
I am particularly proud of the socio-economic impact that this hub will make, creating an excess of 20 000 permanent and temporary jobs.
This development is in alignment the Tshwane Local Economic Development Strategy’s focus on accelerated economic growth and development by investing in the automotive sector.
Through implementing this development, residents can look forward to benefitting through the Foreign Direct Investment that will spur SMME development, technology development and skills transfer for opportunities directed at women and children.
I look forward to more engagements of this nature with provincial and
national government so residents can indeed bear testimony to the change we promised.
